The Lions Club of Parramatta recently supported the Lions High School Deaf Camp.
PDG Steve Coleman invited me along to see exactly what happens on a camp and what our donation money purchases. I was just in awe of what the volunteers and staff got up to with all the kids.
When your read the word “Deaf” you instantly have a connotation of silence. But was I wrong! These kids were climbing, canoeing, BMX bike riding, sailing, playing all types of sports, abseiling, wombat holing, performing archery and so much more. I had to remember that these kids were just kids.
The most important part of the week was the bonding that took place. Kids forming friendships with other kids who also were hearing impaired.
Once again, Parramatta Lions are only too pleased to assist on this project.
